PENDENNIS CASTLE: 1959 - Deluxe pre-maiden intro brochure w/ large cutaway

Product Description

Union-Castle Line:  A pre-maiden voyage intro brochure for the PENDENNIS CASTLE, Union Castle's mail liner of 1959.  The ship, with its lavender hull and stretched out lines, inherited the handsome looks of U.C. ships of days gone-by.

This sixteen-page brochure has glossy covers and thick stock pages.  There are several dozen artist renderings of interiors along with paragraphs of description.  These interiors look quite handsome, although Union-Castle interior design usually was handled by the chairman's wife, often a woman with dubious taste.  Did the First Class Card Room really end up with a magenta ceiling and turquoise walls with pink curtains?  Both First and Tourist classes are covered here.

Perhaps the best part is the centerfold - a 19" cut-way by maestro Lawrence Dunn.  Thirty-two areas are highlighted, from the Charthouse and Wheelhouse to the stabilizer fins.  The PENDENNIS CASTLE was the first Union Castle ship with that great new feature to control rolling.

Very good condition with a little delamination on the glossy cover.
