QE2: 1969 - Famed "Ships Have Been Boring Long Enough" intro brochure

Product Description

Cunard Line:  The famous "Ships Have Been Boring Long Enough" pre-maiden brochure from September 1968.  The point was to differentiate the Jetson's modern and hip QE2 from the veneered and stodgy QUEENS.

Some of the QE2's early eye-popping interiors are shown in photos taken from mock-ups - cabins that came in either lipstick red or daisy yellow, the Midships Lobby with its white golf ball divot center pole and emerald green seating, and a tranquil corner of the Columbia Restaurant decorated in rusts. Two photos show the "Snowflake" china, and another pic is of a bright red molded plastic thing which was the "Chart Reader" from the Lookout Lounge, the only forward facing public room onboard that sadly was removed after only a few seasons.

There is a big photo of the top officers assigned to the ship along with short bios - Captain William Warwick, Chief Engineer Donald Wilson, and Hotel Manager James Smith.

Other highlights - an abstract two-page painting of the new liner, a cross-section showing the decks and major public rooms, and a view looking straight down on her decks showing interesting spaces such as the Sports Deck verandah which disappeared when her first penthouses were fitted on top.

There are rates, cruise information, and a listing of all sort of maiden events: Maiden Westbound Atlantic Voyage on January 17, 1969, three Maiden Cruises from New York in February and March, and the Maiden Eastbound Atlantic Voyage departing on March 11.  None of them took place.  The QE2 had "issues" during her trials in late 1968 and was sent back to the builders for work.
