QUEEN MARY: 1936 - 2 deluxe menus from Oct. '36 private dinners

Product Description

Cunard Line: Two private party dinner menus from the QUEEN MARY's first season in service.

The little (5" by 6") menus are dated October 15 and 16, 1936. The celebrants were the Gilbert family - Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Gilbert and their daughter, Miss G.M. Gilbert. Perhaps they occupied a suite and didn't want to dine with the common folk in First Class?

On the 15th they feasted on Caviar de Beluga, Potage St. Germain, Faisan Roti a l'Anglasise, Petits Pois frais, Epinards Puree, Salade de Saison, and Crepes Suzette. The Gilberts loved their caviar as it was on the menu for the next night, along with Creme Marie Louise, Planked Steak garni, Broccoli Hollandaise, Peach Flambee, and Petits Fours.

The menu covers feature artwork from the ship - a mural carving by John Skeaping from the Starboard Gallery, and a detail from those commanding bronze doors in the Restaurant by Walter and Donald Gilbert.
