United States Army Transport Service - A rare, seven-piece set of U.S.A.T. china from the 1940s as used aboard U.S. Army Transports during World War 2.

Little remembered today is that the army operated around 127,000 ships of all sizes during WW2 operated by U.S.A.T. This set is back-marked Syracuse China and Old Ivory Syracuse China. The larger pieces are stamped with date codes.

Included are a 8.5" luncheon plate (November 1941 date code), 4.5" by 9.75" celery dish (October 1941), 4.5" by 5.75" oval side dish (June 1942), 3.75" double-handle soup cup with 6.25" saucer, and 3.75" coffee cup with 6.25" saucer.

This china would have been very familiar to G.I.s shipping out to theaters-of-war around the world. U.S.A.T. was phased out after the war and the ships taken over by the U.S. Navy.
