Francois Bazin (1897-1956) was a French sculptor whose work ranged from monumental public works to intricate car mascots for Hispano Suiza. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrench civilian passengers had just one opportunity to purchase this souvenir as invited guests on a pre-maiden Channel cruise August 19-20, 1939. The attached photo shows the onboard gift shop. Her maiden voyage was scheduled for September 10, 1939. But with war declared a week earlier, the PASTEUR was converted into a troopship and never again sailed for the French in commercial service.
