GIULIO CESARE & AUGUSTUS - 1958 color interiors brochure in English

Product Description

Italian Line:  A twenty-page interiors brochure from 1958 for the sister ships GIULIO CESARE and AUGUSTUS.

Although built for the South American run, both ships filled in on New York - Mediterranean service during peak periods, or, as is this case with this English language brochure, when the unexpected departure of the ANDREA DORIA left a big gap in the fleet.

The two ships were the first post-war liners built for Italian Line and set the standards for sleek design that lasted a decade.  Fourteen color and six b&w photos showcase beautiful mid-century modern interiors.  Artwork by contemporary Italian artists is visible in the public rooms.  In the center a dramatic two-page spread shows a stylized view of the ships passing at close quarters.

While the GIULIO CESARE was scrapped in the early 1970s due to mechanical problems, the AUGUSTUS survived in various forms for decades and was only broken in 2012.

Very good condition.
