Sitmar Cruises - A deluxe, thirty-six page brochure for FAIRSTAR cruises in 1977-78.

Inside are lots of interior views with happy Aussies in skimpy bathing suits (both sexes, thank you very much) cavorting in the sun and at the bar. Fold-out plans show eight decks in color-coded detail. Tucked into the back is a separate "New Zealand Edition" booklet with twenty pages covering itineraries and rates.

The FAIRSTAR first sailed as Bibby Line's troopship OXFORDSHIRE in 1957, introduced at the tail end of the British troopship era. By 1962 she was the final troopship and by the end of the year she was laid up.  Sitmar bought her for emigrant service from England to Australia and New Zealand. When that market died off in the early 1970s, the FAIRSTAR became the first cruise ship to sail exclusively from Australia.
Tears were shed throughout the country when the FAIRSTAR went to the breakers in 1997.
