Using original plans, Don scaled the lines to 1:100 from which William crafted a form. He then used fiberglass to craft the hull and superstructure. Except for the anchor chain and ship's wheel, the Rowntrees built everything from scratch. When completed in 1987, they launched the EMPRESS OF BRITAIN into Ontario's Bass Lake for the maiden voyage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCheck out the details. Everything is perfect right down to the position of the portholes, the tie-down straps on the lifeboats, the shape and location of ventilation equipment, the railings on the stern  docking station, the handles on the bridge wing engine telegraphs, and even the correct number of panes on the skylights.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAmazingly, the Rowntrees went to far as to construct and decorate the glorious public rooms on Lounge Deck. The superstructure is removeable so you can enjoy the detail. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe miniature tour starts with the Empress Room, complete with painted parquet floors and a foliage-lined stage. Next is the Mall leading back to the First Class Entrance Hall. Be sure to notice both the the painting of Samuel Champlain arriving with his wife in Quebec City replicated over the stairway and, on the opposite wall, the fancy Gift Shop kiosk. Beyond that on the starboard side is the Writing Room with fireplace and on the port side the Knickerbocker Bar with its whimsical artwork showing \"The Legend of the Cocktail\". Then comes a narrow entry hall complete with revolving door housings on each side, followed by the grand Mayfair Lounge. One side has a foliage-lined stage with a scenic backdrop and the other an art deco fireplace. Further back is another entrance hall flanked by the Card Room. The public room parade ends with the famed Cathy Lounge. The elaborate oriental-deco decor is beautifully recreated on the walls and floor.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe EMPRESS OF BRITAIN is fully lit including navigation lights, two working spotlights, interior lighting, and the stern light (which is not working at the moment).
