The 2.75\" diameter medallion is made of bronze and was stamped by the Paris Mint.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOne side features a raised portside bow image of the SS CHAMPLAIN with Samuel de Champlain's BONNE-RENOMMEE in the foreground.  The date of Champlain's first voyage up the St. Lawrence, 1603, is included along with the later ship's maiden voyage year of 1932. \u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOn the observe is a raised image of a dashing Samuel de Champlain with flowing capes and a steely look in his eyes. In the background is the settlement he founded in 1608, Quebec City, complete with the famous Chateau Frontenac on a rise above the port. Circling the image is \"Orbi Antiquo, Novum Conjungit\", Latin for \"Old World Joins the New\".  The name of artist Raymond Delamarre (1890-1986) is engraved at the bottom. Delamarre's other works included medallions for the NORMANDIE.
