His works appeared in publications such as Harper's and Scribners. His maritime subjects included the AMERICA and UNITED STATES, portraits well known to ship fans. Notice that under his signature he has added \"Paris\" where he must have been living at the time. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis colorful portrait is in the style of Belgian painter Henri Cassiers who did many Red Star Line posters. The dramatic ship is softly colored making it very inviting. Little passengers and crew populate the decks and a look-out is posted in the crow's nest. The sailboats and sitting woman with a cloak are very reminiscent of Cassiers'. A notation in the lower left indicates it was printed in Belgian by O. de Rycker, Brussels Forest. O. de Rycker also printed much of Cassiers' work. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe poster has a small stain on the lower right margin and a red mark on the opposite side, plus a few age spots in the upper margin. The poster has a lightly faded look which I believe is intentional. Looking online at past auctions, there are several original MAJESTIC posters with this same soft look and several with stronger colors.
