RAFFAELLO: 1965 - Eight large format maiden arrival photos at New York

Product Description

Italian Line -  Eight large-format photos measuring 11" by 14" showing the RAFFAELLO's maiden arrival in New York on August 4, 1965.

The photos begin with the ship being guided by a tug up the North River with the new Verrazano Bridge in the background. Her foremast is dressed out in signal flags, passengers throng the viewing area above the bridge and, oh my gosh, her still-curing hull paint is badly worn off her bow.

The unknown photographer must have been fascinated by this typical maiden voyage scar as he focused in on the bow for the next four photos, including two that show a sailor precariously balanced on a swinging chair getting ready to repair the damage.

Two images were taken from the superstructure looking out over the bow as big yank-tanks rumble by on the West Side Elevated Highway. The final view was taken on the top deck looking back by RAFFAELLO's magnificent lattice funnels lit up at night.

There are no markings on back and I do not know who the photographer was.

Excellent condition.
