Although the artist's signature is not present, I believe it was the great Hans Bohrdt (1857-1945), a prolific artist whose works ranged from naval battles with sinking ships to tranquil port scenes with languid gulls. He was a favorite of Kaiser Wilhelm II who bought many of his paintings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe portrait is still mounted in its original 30\" by 40\" oak frame. The back has been resealed and the original mounting nails have left black marks around the perimeter. There are a few wrinkles that look like a hand on the bottom center. My reflection (darn glass!) appears in the center.
