The CITY OF ROME rescued three crew, but the rest went down with the sub.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis two-page account was written in defense of the CITY OF ROME's captain. A court of inquiry reprimanded the captain for not slowing down when he saw the white light while the sub's skipper was faulted for not showing proper navigation markings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe raising of a wreck from a depth of 120' had never before been attempted.
