Rich American passengers offered to buy the ship and reflag her so the journey could be completed. Instead, the captain had the crew paint the four funnels in the colors of the White Star Line in an attempt to disguise her as the OLYMPIC. The ship snuck into the small harbor at Bar Harbor, Maine, where the residents were very surprised to awake the next morning to discover the OLYMPIC moored close-by.
