CORFU, CARTHAGE & CANTON - 1950s interiors brochure for aging trio

Product Description

P&O Lines - A fold-out (15" by 18") interiors brochure from the late 1950s for P&O's aging "Three C's" to the Far East, CORFU, CARTHAGE, and CANTON.

Portraits show off lines that harkened back to the 1930s.  The CORFU and CARTHAGE dated to the early 1930s and were modernized post-war with a single funnel instead of two.  The CANTON of 1938 was a larger version and was the last ship built for P&O before WW2.

Ten black and white photos, unidentified as to ship, show off "stately" interiors.  First Class views show the Lounge, Dining Saloon, Corridor Lounge, a single cabin, and a double cabin.  Tourist Class images show the Lounge, Dining Saloon, Nursery, a "typical" four-berth room, and a cramped four-berth cabin "where four go into one very comfortably indeed."

The amalgamation of P&O and Orient Lines spelled the end for these vintage sailors.  Off they went to the breakers in 1961 and 1962.
