New York & Cuba Mail Line - An original and large swallow-tail houseflag from the New York & Cuba Mail Line, operators of the disaster ship MORRO CASTLE. The flag comes from the collection of the late Frank Braynard.

The flag measures 46" by 66" and is made of sail cloth with a canvas binding. Sewn on is a label for the manufacturer, Annin Flags, which was started in 1847 and still makes flags today. The label promises "fast colors" and indeed, the material is still a deep black. The sewn-on white trim is soiled but not faded. Good old Yankee manufacturing prowess!
