In this 13.5\" by 25.5\" painting, the GUILIO CESARE of 1957 is docked across from the ANDREA DORIA of 1953.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJust look at the attention to detail. Vibrant red, white, and green funnels reflect the sun, spidery rigging shoots upwards, the hull is suitably rust-streaked for a busy transatlantic liner, and a hundred other details are suggested by expertly swirled and dabbed paint. The painting is beautifully finished off in a gilded wood frame. \u003cbr\u003e   \u003cbr\u003eIt all works because of Crossley's style.  He painted with knives in the \"wet into wet\" technique.  Crossley started at the top of a canvas and painted downward.  By using paint textures he could convey details.   It was imperative that the paint stayed wet for the technique to work. The artist used just two knives, a large flat edge and a small diamond shaped one.
