Like all Cunard launch brochures of the era, there is a wonderful first person account by a famous author of touring the ship while under construction. This writer was Captain Taprell Dorling, who also wrote maritime stories. Accompanying the text are portraits of the King and Queen, as well as of Cunard Chairman Sir Percy Bates and shipyard officials. \u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eMost of the rest of the brochure is filled with full page construction photos, taken by the famed Stewart Bale photography studio. The photos are lightly tinted in red and blue to highlight certain areas, and they show off the massiveness of the liner. To me, the most spectacular photo is a 3 page fold-out of the John Brown Shipyard with the three-quarters finished QUEEN ELIZABETH stretching across the pages. A close second is in the center of the brochure, the 1938 Frank Mason study of the ship printed onto shimmering gold.
