Included are the CHINA (1889), CITY OF PEKING (1874), CITY OF RIO DE JANIERO (1878), PERU (1892), CITY OF SYDNEY (1875), SAN JUAN (1882), and ACAPULCO (1873). \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAmong the photos are views of the CITY OF PEKING, CHINA, CITY OF SYDNEY, CITY OF PARA, and a montage of interior views from the CHINA.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMany of Pacific Mail's ship met violent endings, but one of the worst was the CITY OF RIO DE JANIERO. In February 1901 she arrived at the Golden Gate in thick fog. The pilot recommended anchoring until the weather cleared, but the captain decided to push on. In dense fog the ship rammed into rocks and then slid off and sank in deep water. Out of 201 passengers, only 83 were saved.
