In 1914 the British admiralty requisitioned the MONTEZUMA and converted her into an oiler. A U-boat torpedo ended her days in 1917.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJansen would have painted this portrait during her Canadian Pacific era. He was known as a \"pierhead\" painter. Like Antonio Jacobson in New York, Jansen prowled the waterfront looking for work among ship owners, captains, and crew.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe elegant gilded frame measures 26\" by 38\" and is of unknown vintage.
