Various: pre-war - Special "Peace Day" July 19, 1919, commemorative brochure

Product Description
Cunard Line - A special, twelve-page "Peace Day" brochure commemorating the end of World War One.

Memorials, speeches, and parades were held across Great Britain on July 19, 1919. Cunard printed up this brochure to highlight the leaders of the Allied countries and the company's valiant service during the war.

"Cunard ships ... served as armed cruisers, transports, hospital ships, food and munition of war carriers. A big quota of the Cunard staff served in the Army and in the Navy. Nearly 400 ships were managed on behalf of the Government," noted Cunard. "Over half of the pre-war fleet has been lost during the war ... there remains AQUITANIA, MAURETANIA, CARONIA, CARMANIA, ROYAL GEORGE, SAXONIA, and PANNONIA."

The war-time leaders of the U.S., Great Britain, France, and Italy are highlighted with portraits and key dates. Illustrations show the AQUITANIA leading a convoy, CARMANIA battling the CAP TRAFALGAR, and troops on the MAURETANIA. For some odd reason, tipped onto the back cover is a postcard view of the AQUITANIA's Swimming Bath.
