Product Description
Panama Mail Steamship Company:  A twelve-page brochure from the mid-1920s promoting cruises on the New York to San Francisco run.  The company was created by Grace Line in the mid-1920s by buying the intercoastal ships of the defunct Pacific Mail Line.  The fleet consisted of the VENEZUELA, ECUADOR, COLOMBIA, GUATEMALA, and EL SALVADOR.

A color lithographed cover provides an idyllic Caribbean scene complete with a macaw, barefoot natives, a thatched roof hut, and an impressive steamer anchored off shore.  The brochure opens to another two pages of color with a map of the Panama Canal hovering above the S.S. GUATEMALA sailing through teal and purple seas.  "The Cruise that Soothes and Rests and Delights" promises the tag line.

Interspersed among the destination photos are views of the fleet.  The canvas swimming pool of the COLUMBIA is shown, along with a portrait of the ECUADOR dressed up in signal flags.  The COLUMBIA is also shown traversing the canal.  Interior pictures, unidentified as to vessel, show the Social Hall and Music Room, Promenade Deck, Writing Room, and a cabin equipped with Simmons beds.

After Grace introduced their spiffy SANTA ROSA class in the early 1930s, Panama Mail was phased out.
