TRANSYLVANIA & CALEDONIA: 1925 - Pre-maiden First Class interiors brochure

Product Description

Anchor Line: A sixteen-page intro interiors brochure from 1925 covering First Class on the sisters TRANSYLVANIA and CALEDONIA. The ships were still under construction so the brochure features detailed pen and ink drawings.

Views from TRANSYLVANIA show the Lounge, Corridor Lounge, Dining Saloon, Writing Room, Smoking Room, a Cabin-de-Luxe, and the GYMNASIUM. Views from CALEDONIA show the Writing Room, Verandah Cafe, Corridor Lounge, Smoking Room, Lounge, Dining Saloon, and a two-berth state room.

The opening illustration shows a stately, three-stack liner. Earlier sisters were fitted with just one funnel. Anchor Line Commodore David Bone later wrote that the line added two dummy stacks to provide "gravitas". Anchor Line highlights the addition in the first paragraph: "Outwardly the vessels present an extremely fine appearance, their three funnels - a departure from the recent one funnel type - adding to the grace of their lines."

Sadly, both TRANSYLVANIA and CALEDONIA were sunk by German U-boats during the summer of 1940.
