Product Description

American President Lines: A fold-out (27" by 32") brochure from 1957 for the PRESIDENT MONROE and PRESIDENT POLK, sister ships from a group of six combo liners built by APL in 1940-41. These two were the only ships returned to the fleet after war service.

The brochure unfolds to shows detailed plans of five passenger decks plus four sample cabin lay-outs and an enlargement of the dining room showing table locations.

Photos are a mixture of color and b&w. The decor was mid-century American - simple with deep colors such as plum and moss green. Three cabins are shown in b&w while color views show a large cabin, Dining Room, Main Lounge, and the Swimming Pool.

The public rooms were air conditioned but only three of the cabins were. It must have been sweltering in the other thirty-six staterooms when passing through the tropics!

There is a very handsome four panel photo of the MONROE in an Asian harbor. Also included is a large around-the-world route map and color destination photos.
