Product Description

French Line:  An unusual postcard (3.5” by 5.5”) posted in September 1899 announcing that the FRANCE had arrived safely in Havana. 

The card was addressed to Leon Mazillier, the French Line agent in Nevers, France.  The FRANCE of 1865, often referred to as LA FRANCE, started off as a paddlewheeler but was converted to screw propulsion in 1874.  The ship mostly sailed on the France-West Indies route with an occasional foray to New York.  She was broken up in 1910 at the astounding age (for the era) of forty-five.
