GIULIO CESARE: 1922 - Large, 3-class, color-coded deck plan from 1934

Product Description
Italian Line - A large (34" by 45") tissue deck plan dated 1934 showing First, Second, and Tourist classes aboard the GIULIO CESARE. The ship had just undergone a retrofit that reduced her passenger capacity by almost 2/3rds by replacing a huge Third Class with a more a keeping-with-the-times Tourist Class.

Seven decks are shown in color-coded detailed with lavender representing First, blue Second, and tomato Tourist. Interesting to note that Tourist was now clustered at the stern while Second Class shared midships with First Class. The retrofit changes are visible here with Second Class now allotted the private dining rooms and the swimming pool.

The popularity of the GIULIO CESARE and DUILIO and sister DUILIO helped ushered in the "carved-to-death" era of luxurious Italian steamers that proliferated in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Sadly, they both finished their days as bombed-out hulks off Trieste in the waning days of WW2.

Very good condition.
