EMPRESS OF BRITAIN: 1931 - Honolulu-to-Europe World Cruise segment brochure

Product Description
Canadian Pacific - A fold-out (20" by 26") brochure promoting a Honolulu-and-California-to-Europe leg on a EMPRESS OF BRITAIN World Cruise.

Long before Cunard began selling sections of QE2 World Cruises, Canadian Pacific tried it in the 1930s. I'm not sure which year as nowhere in the brochure is a year mentioned (there ought to be a law!). Prospects were pitched a voyage to Europe by departing Honolulu, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. A detailed map shows the run through the Panama Canal with a note indicating that the EMPRESS OF BRITAIN was the largest passenger ship to pass through, a record she held until the FRANCE took her first World Cruise forty years later.

Besides a big portrait of the big ship, b&w photos show the Tennis Court, Cathay Lounge Smoking Room, Mayfair Lounge, Dining Saloon, Boat Deck, and Promenade Deck.

When my time machine is perfected, strolling through the wonders of the EMPRESS OF BRITAIN will be one of my first destinations. That is, provided I can set the dial to before October 26, 1940, when the ship was attached by a German bomber and sub. It took a couple of days to sink the old gal and when she went down she became the largest civilian ship sunk during WW2.
