The ship was considered a sensation on the Africa run when introduced in 1948, although she was a bit long-in-the-tooth by the time this plan was printed in 1962.

A great feature of these 1960s Union Castle deck plans, besides covering both classes, are the color interior photos. Often times the wives of company officials would handle the interior decoration and, at least to my untrained eye, it shows on the EDINBURGH CASTLE. The First Class Cocktail Bar was a wild mix of stately oak paneling, chintz covered sofas, and taxi-car yellow curtains. The Lounge had old-fashioned high ceilings and was filled with a mixture of 1960s plaid seats, royal red arm chairs, and waiting room sofas. But I can't argue with the gorgeous lines of the ship itself or the handsome lavender livery.

Other First Class photos show the Library and Long Gallery, Smoke Room, Dining Room, two cabins, and a suite sitting room. Tourist Class photos show the Swimming Pool, Lounge, two cabins, Dining Room, and the Library and Writing Room.

Excellent condition.
