DEVONIA & NEVASA - Mid-1960s cruise brochure w/ deck plans & interiors

Product Description
British-India Steam Navigation: A twenty-page brochure from the mid-1960s promoting cruises on the DEVONIA and NEVASA. Both were used for school cruises and carried adult passengers in relative comfort above the rancorous masses.

The first six pages are filled with cruise info before the good stuff begins. Each ship gets a large b&w portrait and several interior photos. Then come the deck plans. A large starboard profile shows deck location.

For the NEVASA, five color-coded decks are shown which included a postage-stamp size outdoor pool up on Boat Deck. Four decks are shown for the DEVONIA. A decent-sized pool was positioned aft of the public rooms on Boat Deck.

These interesting vessels were launched as permanent troopships. The DEVONIA sailed for Bibby as the DEVONSHIRE from 1939 until 1962 when she was sold to B-I. During a rehab she was converted from carrying 1,000 troops to accommodating 190 passengers and 830 kiddies.

The NEVASA was launched in 1955 with powerful engines designed to speed troops around the globe. But she sucked down fuel like a sailor on at a bar. The conversion for her came in 1964 when space for 1,000 troops was retrofitted to hold 300 passengers and 1,120 little devils. The NEVASA lasted until 1975 when those thirsty engines carried her to the breakers.
