The glowing text describes the CITY OF BENARES as "... a notable example of the highest class of passenger liner ..."

The ship is forever remembered for the tragedy on September 18, 1940. While transporting refugees and ninety children to the safety of Canada, the CITY OF BENARES was torpedoed by U-48. The ship went down quickly in stormy seas. Of the 406 souls onboard, 248 perished, including seventy-seven of the children. Allegations that the crew rushed the lifeboats, that safety equipment failed, and that a promised naval escort never appeared, still haunt the tragedy today.

Good condition with partial separation along one fold.
