AUSTRALIS/ITALIS: 1940 - 2 Chandris baggage stickers

Product Description

Chandris Lines - Two baggage stickers (2.5" by 9") from a famous Chandris liner that served under two names.

Chandris purchased United States Lines' AMERICA in 1964 and converted her into the immigrant ship AUSTRALIS. From that era comes a baggage sticker with the ship and line name, along with the houseflag. She served her role well for thirteen years until the jumbo jet put her out of business on her England-Australia run.

The second sticker is marked ITALIS, the name Chandris chose when they brought the ex-AUSTRALIS out of lay-up in June 1979. Under that name she served as a hotel ship for a about a month and then did three cruises. But by September '79 the decrepitated former-flagship was back in lay-up. Only bad things happened to the ship after that, but that is a story for another time.

Unused and in very good condition with some spotting.
