AUGUSTUS: 1927 - Large, detailed First & Second class deck plan 1935

Product Description
Italian Line: A large (34" by 45") tissue deck plan dated 1935 covering First and Second classes on the elegant AUGUSTUS. The ship underwent a retro in 1934 that rearranged classes.

Eight decks are shown in splendid detail including color-coding for the two classes. The size means lots of interesting details come forth. For those in First Class there is an array of lovely public spaces, starting with two rows of changing cabins next to the Outdoor Swimming Pool on Lido Deck. On Boat Deck there are the Reading and Writing Room, Smoking Room, Winter Garden, and Veranda. One deck down on Promenade there are the Ball Room, Lounge, Dining Salon, and Grill Room (unusual to have dining facilities so high). Close behind is the Children's Dining Room and Playroom. The bambinos also have there own deck space forward on Boat Deck. Tucked into a corner of the A Deck Entrance Hall is a little Art Shop. All that for a mere 210 passengers!

Second Class also was spacious with not only a Ladies Salon but a Men's Salon next door. More spaces include the Veranda Bar, Smoking Room, two Dining Salons, two more Verandas flanking a central Drawing Room, and a Lounge.

The AUGUSTUS, like so much of the Italian Line fleet, met an unhappy ending during WW2. In 1943 conversion began to make her into an aircraft carrier. The Germans napped her later in the year and eventually sank her to block Genoa Harbor. The wreck was raised in 1946 and sold for scrap.
