Product Description

United States Lines: The coveted AMERICA prestige brochure created in the early 1950s by famed graphic designer Lester Beall (1903-1969) to match the version he designed for the UNITED STATES.

There are twenty-four pages printed on elegantly textured thick stock. Beall sketches of shipboard fun highlight each left-hand page. Each right-hand page is filled with large b&w photos of public rooms and cabins from all three classes. In the center is a four-page fold-out portrait of the AMERICA with both ship stats and a listing of the major artists whose work decorated public rooms.

Although overshadowed for many years by the UINTED STATES, the AMERICA is now being acknowledged for her beautiful interiors and her contributions to the design of the "Big U".

Among the photo highlights - the two deck high First Class Lounge with its bronze wave railings by Paul Manship, the First Class Dining Room with its Pierre Bourdelle lacquer murals, the First Class Ballroom showing the big Charles Baskerville circus mural, and my favorite onboard room, the circular First Class Smoking Room with its map murals.
