None were returned to APL.

What might have been! Color illustrations show off a futuristic design with a rounded superstructure and twin exhaust pipes rather than traditional funnels. A route map demarcates the around-the-world route. The Raymond Loewy-designed interior is shown in four color cabin photos (probably mock-ups).

Of special interest are the deck plans. There were four decks containing cabins with many up against the curving front, creating pie-shaped spaces. Five sample cabin lay-outs are included.

After the Korean War, the trio never returned to APL and were laid-up in the early 1970s. But soon they entered new careers as school ships. The PRESIDENT JACKSON went to New York Maritime Academy to become the EMPIRE STATE V, the PRESIDENT ADAMS went to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy as the BAY STATE IV, and the PRESIDENT HAYES went to the Maine Maritime Academy as the STATE OF MAINE. All three were scrapped in the 1990s and 2000s.

Good condition.
