SOUTHERN CROSS was laid-up and sold-off in 1971. The three A-Ships were disposed of and turned in car-carriers, also in 1971. NORTHERN STAR was broken up in 1974 after a mere twelve years of service. OCEAN MONARCH's demise came in 1975.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIronically, the oldest liner, SOUTHERN CROSS, lasted the longest. She had a second career as a popular cruise ship for several owners.
