Matson Lines – An unusual find - a biscuit plate with cup in the "Bombay" pattern as used aboard Matson liners in the 1930s.

The plate measures 7.5" by 8.5" while the cup is 2.25" tall. The plate is back-marked “Syracuse China – Made Expressly for Matson Navigation Co.” along with a 1931 date code. It was probably used on one of Matson's big liners of the 1930s. The cup is bottom-marked Mayer China but without a date code nor the line name.

The attached photo shows the Bombay pattern in use aboard the MONTEREY of 1932.

The plate shows well but has a chip in the rim. The cup is in excellent condition.
