In fact, this ship was plagued by disasters beginning at the shipyard in March 1929. A fire swept North German Lloyd's almost-completed EUROPA and she almost was scrapped. As an Allied-operated troopship after WW2, the deteriorated ship repeatedly caught fire. And then in 1946 she broke loose in Le Havre during a storm and holed herself upon the wreckage of the sunken PARIS. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut the 1950s were good years for the LIBERTE when she operated as the flagship of the French Line.
