Sitmar Cruises:  A triangular compass rose dish, sold onboard the FAIRSTAR as a souvenir. 

The 5.5” wide dish is made of Melmac, that popular high-impact plastic of the 1970s and 80s.  FAIRSTAR began sailing in 1957 as the Bibby Line troopship OXFORDSHIRE and was sold to Sitmar in 1964 to become an immigrant liner on the Down Under run.  After Sitmar lost the immigrant contract to Chandris in 1970, the ship turned to full-time cruising out of Sydney.  Over the next three decades the FAIRSTAR became one of the most beloved ships in the Australia-New Zealand market.  She went to the breakers in 1997.
