NORMANDIE: 1935 - "Neuilly" salad fork

Product Description

French Line: An 7" long salad fork from the NORMANDIE's Second Class (renamed Tourist Class) Dining Room.

The fork was made by French silversmiths Ercuis and features the art deco CGT logo known as "Neuilly".

Noted French architects Pierre Patout and Henri Pacon were responsible for most of NORMANDIE's major public rooms including the First Class Salle a Manger. They designed this rectilinear logo to play off the glass panel walls by Labouret and glass light towers by Lalique.

But just a few months before the NORMANDIE's maiden voyage, the French Line decided to use the Neuilly silver service in the Second Class Salle a Manger (see attached photo). It too was a magnificent space and more intimate than the cavernous First Class room. In the center was a two-deck high dome supported by a bundle of four gilt-staff columns encircling a serving station. The two wings of the room were covered in pale ash, a soothing contrast to the shiny glitz of the center. It was here where the Neuilly pattern held sway.

Very good condition with light wear from use.
